故事簡介

雖是指定由永瀨正敏主演的亞洲節拍系列，卻拍出非常緊扣香港脈搏的主題。九七臨近，隻身到香港流浪的苦悶日本青年，在尖東海旁遇上即將移民加國的中學女生。青年欲尋找傳統中國美食，女生卻懷念麥當勞的童年回憶。青年重遇初戀情人的姊姊，拼命做愛排遣孤寂；女生情竇初開但愛情碰壁。浮城垂死，中秋不再象徵團圓，獨剩病榻上祖母留給子孫的祝福。羅卓瑤冷靜凝視現代人的疏離隔膜，以及無根的流徙狀態，劉以達的配樂更為電影添上淒美色調。

Synopsis

A Japanese man visiting Hong Kong in search of good food and a 15-year-old girl about to embark on a new life with her family in Canada form an unlikely friendship in Clara Law’s exquisite drama. The two are at the opposite ends of a cycle: the man has chosen to forget his roots, while the young girl is about to leave them behind. Made during the height of the Hong Kong emigration rush in the early 1990s, Autumn Moon reflects the anxiety of a city on the verge of major transition.

從三十年代的上海到五十年代的香港，不少喜劇以諷刺貪婪、抨擊為富不仁作主旨，《錢》是經典之一。諷刺貪婪既是因為儒家傳統戒忌重視利益，也是十九世紀末以來改革思想主流下的特色。中國突然與西方及資本主義硬接軌，經歷各樣傳統和現代、意識形態及政治強權的鬥爭，所謂進步文藝作品，一方面強調大眾的安樂生活（其實少不得金錢），一方面貶斥金錢乃萬惡之源。這種尷尬是必然的，文化反映時代的困難，一切須在矛盾（包括暴力革命）中反省和行進。如此，導演吳回的類型處理，吻合香港的複雜處境。《錢》沒有太好太壞的人物，他們是聚居香港的萬千遷客；嘲諷和批判隱含於驚險滑稽的情節，因為教化跟不上香港的步履，教化須借助娛樂。中聯公司也在這樣摸索變革，片中白燕張活游飾演文藝工作者，生活簡樸知足，而不乏中產情趣，大概是中聯的理想角色。《錢》彰顯香港電影言之有物的娛樂傳統，後來發揚光大的是許冠文作品和唐書璇的奇片《十三不搭》(1975)。

Money

Synopsis

The clash between free-market economy and Confucian traditions is one of the defining aspects of modern China, often expressed in popular culture as scorn for the shortfalls of capitalism, such as greed and corruption. Money, a delicious comedy from the greatly renowned and influential company Union Film, traces the journey of a bag of cash – the loot from a bank robbery – from one pair of rapacious hands to another, like the title piece of paper in the German film Adventures of a Ten Mark Note (1926). The humor switches between the witty, the absurd and the physical, offering a biting examination of human nature when men and women are confronted with the chance of unearned wealth. Director Ng Wui animates the story with sure-handed intelligence, backed by uniformly great performances, especially that of veteran Lam Kwan-shan as a filthily rich miser.

踏入九十年代的香港，難民社會早已變身金融都市，香港被視為資本主義自由經濟的成功例子。追求金錢物質是生活品味，甚至是人生目標，除了法治和自由，一個「賭」字代表的拼搏心，更是許多港人的精神支柱。王晶很早便摸透香港人的賭性，往日的「千王」、「千霸」升級「賭神」、「賭聖」，著power suit和長褸，吃在中環才買得到的朱古力。豪裝之下，草根小子的精叻本色卻不移，搖碎骰子減少點數，如此著數是賭術還是千術？撞壞腦袋，寄身鄉郊，發了一場nostalgia for suffering――懷苦日子舊的春夢，可只要吃中環朱古力，賭技絲毫不減。賭性頑強，必能翻身。賭神的傷是從貧窮躍升豪富，身心未能協調產生的精神錯亂。可幸港產片始終重視情義，賭神助萍水相逢的行家報殺父之仇，落拓江湖時，又結下一段師徒情。王晶電影常能捕捉庶民心理，盡情利用，樂在其中。《賭神》集天時地利人和，記下資本主義和香港民情高度自滿的姿態。

God of Gamblers

Synopsis

Gambling films, which were very popular in the late 1980s, are the opposite of Money (1959) in its attitude towards getting rich quick. Hong Kong by then had unapologetically embraced free-market capitalism. Not only was unearned wealth no longer disdained, the urge for it was in fact openly expressed and readily accepted. Gambling, with its added dimensions of risk, globetrotting glamour and luxurious trappings like casinos and tuxedos, lends itself naturally to film. God of Gamblers, directed by the unapologetically commercial Wong Jing, at once celebrates this attitude towards money and seeks reprieve from it. In a plot inspired by Rain Man (1988), the title deity (the great Chow Yun-fat) suffers a head trauma and reverts briefly to a child-like state, a vacation in innocence from high-stake capitalism. But, alas, nurtured by a young hustler (Andy Lau, with the callow charm of a rising star), he eventually saunters back into the ring…
