故事簡介
茱麗葉庇洛仙飾演蘇珊，正忙於籌備一齣改編自元劇《張生煮海》的布袋戲，無暇照顧七歲兒子西蒙，雇了從北京到巴黎念電影的留學生宋芳當褓母。放學路上，宋芳陪伴西蒙穿街過巷，神奇的紅氣球就在身旁出現，猶如守護天使。侯孝賢受奧塞美術館委約，首次拍攝法語電影，透過李屏賓的鏡頭，以東方視點觀看西方，抓住巴黎人的孤獨，親親被遺忘的時光，呼應印象派畫家瓦洛頓繪畫小孩在草地上追逐紅氣球的名畫，亦遙向拉摩里的《紅氣球》致敬。

Flight of the Red Balloon
Synopsis
Director Hou Hsiao-Hsien’s first film made outside of Asia is both a tribute to Albert Lamorisse’s Le Ballon Rouge and an enchanting love letter to Paris. While Hou’s version still starts off with a boy discovering a red balloon, it steers away from the original with a leisurely domestic drama about the boy, his puppeteer mother (Binoche) and a Chinese student who becomes the boy’s nanny. Like the audience, the red balloon is a spectator looking at these three lives; it is always present, though not always acknowledged.
